Referral and Specialty Services

Shoreline Animal Hospital strives to maintain the highest quality of care and service for our patients and clients. We have modern equipment, well trained staff and keep up with the latest information to help keep your pet happy and healthy. However, in some cases a specific treatment or procedure may be best performed by a specialist. In these instances we will not hesitate to recommend a veterinary specialist that would be best able to help your pet. We maintain a very good relationship with many board certified veterinarians who specialize in cardiology, ophthalmology, dermatology, orthopedic surgery, and oncology among others. We will work with that specialist to make sure that your pet receives the best care. In some cases, a specialist will travel to our clinic to provide their services.

• Dr. Steve Heyman, Dr. Heyman is the owner of Surgical Care Specialists, a mobile veterinary surgical specialty practice. A native New Yorker, Dr. Heyman has been a resident of Connecticut since 1991. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania and remained at Penn to greaduate with honors from the School of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and The Society of Phi Zeta, the national veterinary honor society. Dr. Heyman completed his internship and surgical residency at the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1993. Dr. Heyman lives in Orange with his wife and three children.

• Dr. Erik Peterson, Dr. Peterson is an internal medicine specialist and owner of InterMed, a mobile veterinary internal medicine consultant. He performs ultrasound, endoscopic, and biopsy procedures as well as other specialty procedures. Dr. Peterson is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. He offers his expertise in helping Dr. Berman, Dr. West, and the owners arrive at the best treatment option for their pets.
